A Symbol of Pride

Many Canadians might choose a maple leaf tattoo to show their national pride, but Aaron Moser took his commitment even further. He incorporated two maple leaves into his custom-made wheelchair—the same chair he used to carry the Olympic torch. This wheelchair became a symbol of his dedication and pride during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. Calling himself a “super patriot,” Aaron carried the torch around the arena, embodying his courage and determination.

A Life-Changing Event

Aaron’s journey to this moment of honor began when he was just seventeen years old.In 1998, during a junior league hockey game in British Columbia, a severe accident altered his life forever. He was checked into the boards and hit headfirst, breaking his neck. This accident damaged his spinal cord, leaving him without sensation or movement below his chest.

Facing New Challenges

For someone who had always been very active, this was a major setback. His family had to make significant changes to their home and lifestyle to support him, facing a heavy financial burden for renovations, equipment, and ongoing care.

Community Support

In response, the community rallied around Aaron. Friends, family, and even strangers came together to create a trust fund to cover the increasing costs. Donations flowed in not just from local supporters but from the broader hockey community around the world.
